The smiths couplings are nice and fine, although the Romford screws are slightly chunky. I wouldn't use Romford 3 links as they are way over scale. Back in the 70's, my father had some scale 00 screw couplings which actually worked.

Chain is defined by the wire thickness and the width/length of a link, or sometimes by how many links per inch. 3 link is something like 6-12inch link length, so you need 2 to 4mm links (for OO) = 6 to 12 links per inch.
